Housing Act of 1956 is adopted in Washington, D.C.

The legislation increases funds for conservation and rehabilitation of existing housing stock and for promoting participation by property owners, and makes funds available for relocation and for the development of large-scale General Neighborhood Renewal Plans (GRNP).
